Tips For Moving Your Furniture

Studies have shown that moving ranks as one of the top three most stressful life events, right after losing a spouse or child. Between finding a new home, dealing with brokers and executing the actual move, there is an incredible amount of time and thought that goes into relocating.

Once an apartment has been found and the packing portion of the move is complete, the question of how to best transfer your unique furniture from one location to another arises. Should you hire movers or ask your friends and family for assistance? Should you dissemble your sofa sets or will they fit through the doorways of your new place? What about the smaller furniture pieces? How should you transport them without risking breakage? These concerns are enough to drive anyone to the brink of giving up on moving entirely!
Tips For Moving Furniture:

  1. Hiring Professional Movers: In the long run, hiring professional movers will take a significant amount of the burden of moving off of your shoulders. By hiring professionals, you are giving someone else the task of figuring out how to fit your Ashley sofa set into your new home. Be sure to do your research before hiring movers. Ask friends who've they liked. Read reviews online. Find the best in town and call them.
  2. Protecting Your Furniture: Bubble wrap is your best friend here! For breakable items like dinette sets and decorative mirrors, be sure to wrap each item in at least two layers of bubble wrap. For non –breakable items like Acme furniture or leather recliner chairs, a single layer will suffice. Labeling is key as well. Label the breakables with “FRAGILE.”
  3. Unpacking: Secure help. The movers will unpack the van and move everything into your new home. After that, it’s up to you and your family and friends. Labeled boxes and wrapped items will speed this process up quite a bit. Also, when moving items like Ashley sofas or coffee tables, be sure not to drag them. This will scratch the new floors and result in damage to the furniture as well.
This should get you started on your move. Prepare ahead of time and avoid unexpected complications. Most importantly, take a deep breath and remember it will all be worth it once you’re moved in to your dream home!
